Penny Garrett
As an experienced and compassionate counsellor, I am committed to facilitating healing and growth for individuals who have undergone trauma, adversity, bereavement, depression, anxiety, or feelings of being lost. My approach to counselling is grounded in a person-centered philosophy that is built on the idea that the answers to one’s challenges lie within oneself.
I employ a holistic approach to counselling that considers the interconnectedness of the mind and body in promoting well-being. I believe that one’s past experiences, especially in childhood and early life, can shape one’s present and future. As such, I encourage clients to explore and come to terms with their past in order to transform their present and future.
In addressing trauma, I recognize the impact of trauma on the body and provide techniques to facilitate the processing and release of stored trauma. I also work with clients to identify patterns in their relationships that may be repeating and hindering their growth and help them break these patterns.
Compassion is an essential element in the healing process, and I help clients cultivate self-compassion. Collaboration and open communication with clients are crucial to my practice, as I strive to provide a safe and confidential space for clients to identify and address the root causes of their distress. Overall, I am dedicated to providing supportive and empowering counselling that helps clients find their own way to a fulfilling life.
Our first meeting…
It’s normal to be nervous – after all, it’s a brave decision to sit in front of someone you don’t know and ask for help or talk about details of your life. I have immense respect for anyone who takes that first step. We’ll take some time initially sharing information and deciding whether we want to work together. If I feel I can’t help I can refer you on to someone who can. We’ll then look at planning an initial number of sessions with reviews built in.
I love listening to people’s stories. Every human being is unique. Every story is filled with personal perspective and meaning, and it is a privilege to be entrusted with them. You are a unique and incredible human being who can bring pain, confusion, and despair to the room as well as growing self-confidence and self-understanding as you face some difficult feelings. I love to see people start to realise that change is possible, how their own patterns have been keeping difficulties in place, and that they can influence more than they realise. As they explore, value and rewrite these stories, the courage and self-worth clients develop as a result of the work is a privilege to witness.
I am qualified to work face to face (located in Northamptonshire, England UK), virtually via Zoom or by telephone, supporting you, at your pace. Initially, I would meet you in an initial free 20-minute telephone session (with no obligation) so that you can explain your wishes, and decide if, and how we might work together
